I guess it was inevitable that I would eventually resort to ripping off song titles, and equally predictable that I would start with the Beatles. :D

Well, I've seen this sort of multi-picture thing done before and decided it might work with these photos. They were actually taken on the same day (hence the title ;)). The top one was taken at sunrise from the vantage point of the big oblong building featured in the bottom photo. The latter was taken an hour or so before sunset.

Needless to say, it was not looking promising for the astronomers that night (those buildings are all telescopes, in case you were wondering), but I couldn't help feeling happy for the cool photo op. :)

Thanks! :)

Funnily enough, it was the 2nd (bottom) one that I was working with first (I just love that ominous sky right above the telescopes, and the feeble little beams!) But I just kept cropping it and cropping it until I came up with the idea of adding another picture, to better use the space. Looking at it with the perspective of a day, I agree that the top one is more impressive. It was an awesome sight, all that mist on the mountains, but unfortunately most of my photos of the scene came out saturated around the sun, so I wasn't going to submit any. This one is borderline, but I think I can just get away with it. ;)

I could always try it again with a more impressive sunset shot, but I don't know if it would then be too orange overall. I'll keep it in mind though...
